Waiting Through Space:
Honestly, I can't tell you why things are going this bad. I've done everything right. I've jumped through the hoops they've asked me to jump. Why has it been so damned difficult? The stars say, "Jump!" I check to see how high I should jump. I've checked and rechecked the calculations. If I'm on the Cepian planet by nightfall, all the alignments say I should be in a position to find my fortune. I just have to keep an eye out. Everything is in Trine. Trine is good. Trine is very good. I only have to be there for destiny to give me what's mine.
I'm getting ahead of myself, here. Perhaps, I should get you up to speed. I need to explain things a bit. I mean all this babbling about hoops, fortunes and destiny may have you scratching your head. You see it all started about 2 years ago. I met this guy, Anu. He was a nice guy. He needed help with his business. He was a fortune teller.
I know what you're thinking, right. Fortune's are for the foolish. It's a scam, and no one in their right mind is going to fall for that these days. Well, I was thinking those things as well. But this guy, you see, Anu has this calculation, an algorithm that he applies to all the known stars. He figured out how to apply the rules for time and space applicable to the life of the individual. All you have to do is go to the best place in space at the right time where things are most advantageous for you. The catch is knowing all the positions of the stars, even the dark ones you can't see, and inserting them into the calculations. That's where I came in.
I used to design database applications that collected sparse information found throughout SpaceNet. Anu asked me to develop a program to collect any and all information on star positions throughout the known universe. I found a way to tap into thousands of home world databases using a BraneRelay points. It gave us instant access to all sorts of data. I only had to adapt what I knew to Anu's algorithm. And I did.
The results were staggering. Anu made 5 of his current clients rich in the first week. The stars let us know what we needed to know. All you had to do is listen to the stars. Anu always said, "They talk to you. They tell you things. You should listen to them." Well, all I know is that the system worked, and it worked very well. Except, Anu never used it for himself.
Tragically, he had a spill in his bath tub and did not recover. Naturally, I took over his practice, but I'm not going to follow his path. I have to do my field research and get myself in the right position to be able to help others. At least, that was my intent. So, for the past two years, I've been trying to get to the spot in the universe that will make me a fortune and set my life on the right track. This time, I'm sure I have the right spot. The calculations say so.
Yes, I did say "this time"- as in more than once.
I know, I know. This is my third attempt, but I have a good excuse. These Brane jumps are expensive and it takes time to build up the kind of cash that gets you across the universe in a matter of months. I'm taking Anu's advise and listening to the stars, but it just seems like I spend all my time waiting for the next moment to happen.
